Stony ground, Carn Leac Carn Leac (cairn of slabs) shows very little rocky ground near the summit, but has a sizeable crag on its north side, which probably gave it the name. This ground had me expecting ptarmigan, and minutes later, the first of the day appeared.

Summit wall, Carn Leac The old boundary fences are partly replaced by a much more useful wall over the summit of Carn Leac. Not a lot of wall, just a short section. It was probably all they could do to find enough stone.

Carn Leac View up the southwestern slopes of Carn Leac. This far up (750m) there is not so much peat and the going improves. The lower slopes of the hill are very tough.

North ridge, Creag a' Chail Looking down the north ridge of Craig a' Chail. This is dry ground, more than can be said for Poll-gormack Hill in the background. I have heard this colour scheme on peaty hills being likened to sauce on a Christmas pudding. When you see it, you know you are in for a struggle.
