Battersea Park is a 83 hectare green space at Battersea. It is situated on the south bank of the River Thames opposite Chelsea, and was opened in 1858. The park contains a wide range of facilities including an athletics track, all weather sports pitches, lake, children's zoo, tennis courts, bandstand and pagoda. Map: Link

On the far bank, wrapped in plastic sheeting, the shell of the old Lots Road power-station is being refurbished - for residential use, as I understand it. Two tall chimneys are to be retained. The walkway forms part of the Thames Path, and reaches the riverside a couple of hundred metres ahead.

The American Embassy was opened in December 2017, having moved from its previous location in Grosvenor Square. It is on the right here on the other side of its moat. A wildflower meadow has been created as well as the moat for part of the work for the Embassy. Security at the entrance was somewhat intimidating with gun-toting police. South Kensington Underground station: view eastward from Platform 2

Platform 1 - across the tracks - was last used (so it is said) in 1966. The buildings and canopy on that platform have been taken down, but the site is left looking semi-derelict. Demolition exposed a long stretch of brickwork arcading - typical of the stations of the old Metropolitan Railway. That railway was originally steam-hauled, leaving the brickwork discoloured by soot until cleaned up at some stage in the late 20th century. A contribution from Dr Neil Clifton shows Platform 1 as it was in 1979 - partly demolished Link Lewis Clark's view from street-level shows that extensive dereliction remained as late as 2018: Link
