Hornsea HU18 A pontoon off Kirkholme Point on the Mere. It certainly seems that the mere was being used by the public during the 1880s. By 1887 the Hornsea Mere & Hotel Co. had obtained a lease on the mere for fishing and boating and by 1892 more than 20 yachts were kept on the eastern part of the mere. Also there were pleasure boats for hire.
