Heron Craig, located in Caithness, Scotland, is a prominent coastal feature that encompasses a cliff and slope formation. This geological formation is situated on the northeastern coast of mainland Scotland, near the village of Lybster. The area is known for its rugged beauty and dramatic coastal landscape.

Heron Craig is characterized by its towering cliffs that rise abruptly from the shoreline, reaching heights of approximately 40 meters (130 feet). These cliffs are composed of sedimentary rocks, including sandstone and shale, which have been shaped by the forces of erosion over millions of years. The coastline surrounding Heron Craig is marked by sea caves, arches, and stacks, further adding to its natural allure.

The cliff face provides a nesting site for a variety of seabirds, including fulmars, kittiwakes, and razorbills. These birds can often be observed soaring above the cliffs or nesting in small crevices and ledges. Additionally, the area is home to a diverse range of marine life, with seals and dolphins occasionally spotted in the nearby waters.

A sloping terrain connects the cliff face to the surrounding land, creating a transition zone between the sea and the adjacent fields and meadows. This slope is covered in lush vegetation, including grasses, wildflowers, and hardy shrubs, which provide habitat for various small mammals and insects.

Heron Craig attracts visitors from near and far who come to admire its striking beauty and enjoy the coastal scenery. The site offers opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and photography, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the natural wonders of Caithness.
