Castle Ponds is a picturesque freshwater site located in Sussex, England. It is a combination of a lake, pool, pond, and freshwater marsh, making it a diverse and unique natural habitat. The site covers an area of approximately 20 acres and is nestled amidst rolling hills and lush greenery.

The main feature of Castle Ponds is the large lake, which occupies the central part of the site. The lake spans several acres and is surrounded by a variety of flora and fauna. Its crystal-clear waters are home to numerous species of fish, including trout, perch, and pike, making it a popular spot for fishing enthusiasts.

Adjacent to the lake is a smaller pool, which is connected by a narrow channel. This pool is shallower and serves as a breeding ground for amphibians such as frogs and newts. It also attracts a variety of water birds, including ducks and herons, providing an ideal spot for birdwatching.

On the eastern side of Castle Ponds, there is a tranquil pond, which is densely covered with floating lilies and other aquatic plants. This pond is inhabited by a wide range of aquatic insects and invertebrates, creating a thriving ecosystem.

Finally, the site is surrounded by a freshwater marsh, characterized by its tall reeds and grasses. This marshland provides a habitat for numerous species of birds, mammals, and insects, including reed warblers and water voles.

Castle Ponds offers visitors a chance to explore and appreciate the beauty of nature in a serene and peaceful setting. Its diverse range of habitats ensures that there is always something new to discover, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Tree trunk - south of Cooks Farm There are several of these trees alongside this section of track. The stripped bark suggests some kind of eucalyptus to me. Window, shutters and bamboo This was an architectural plant centre, though I think they've now moved their business to Pulborough according to their website. The site has a number of curious colonial style buildings, for want of a better description. Exotic species are also much in evidence around nearby Cook's Farm.

Outbuilding near Cook's Farm I think these curious outbuildings may be connected with the nearby "Architectural Plants" nursery. The nursery business has, according to their website, now moved to Pulborough - though the Nuthurst site still looks like a nursery.
