Roe deer, Thursley Common I disturbed this doe at quite close quarters, on high ground not far from the Old Portsmouth Road. She ran off a short distance (maybe 15m) then paused for a second or two to look back at me - giving me the chance to take this zoom shot.

I should add that roe deer are quite often met with on the heaths of west Surrey. On occasion you get a distant view in open country, but more often you disturb them among gorse and bracken, and in a second or two they are gone. So I count myself lucky to have got this shot.

Heathland in April, Thursley Common With the yellow of gorse, and the bright green of birches in new leaf. I noticed that bracken shoots nearby were frosted.
