Carter's Steam Fair, Reading - gallopers The steam gallopers were built by Tidman in about 1895 and the centre engine - Anna - is also by Tidman of c1892. It was acquired for the ride from another source but was such a perfect fit it may have been the original but that is not proven. The little organ engine in the background is thought to be by a builder from Cumbria and was acquired from yet another source. Gallopers have a hard life, things wear out and parts get moved around so they are usually like grandfather's axe (or Trigger's broom for Only Fools and Horses fans).

Carter's Steam Fair, Reading - Victory Dive Bomber This was originally owned by Billy Smart and dates from around 1946 and may have been built from two rides. Each of the two arms carries two pods that also rotate on their axes. I was too chicken to try this. There is also a sign warning that it is very effective at emptying your pockets of loose change, mobile phones etc. It was not included in the 2022 travelling fair and is in store with another company.
