Wooden cradles awaiting pipes These supports keep the steel pipes off the ground, mainly, I presume, so that the protective coating on the pipes is not damaged. These supports were made simply from four pieces of wood, 100 x 150 x 900 mm in size, placed as shown but without any fixings.

Excavator with pipe lifting gear crossing Joan's Acre Lane A Caterpillar type 325 medium excavator fitted with a Vlentec type ED125N vacuum lifter. The lifter is fed with hydraulic and electrical power from the excavator. The hydraulic power enables the lifter to be rotated about its central, normally vertical, axis. The electric power drives a vacuum pump in the light green-coloured lifter, which is applied via the long, black beam to the pipe by means of a rubber pad at each end of the beam. There is a mechanical vacuum gauge (small white dial) at each end of the beam so people can check that all is well with the vacuum.
