Waters of Raga is a picturesque freshwater marsh located in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. Spanning an area of approximately 10 acres, it is a unique ecosystem that consists of a combination of a lake, pool, pond, and freshwater marsh. The site is nestled amidst rolling hills and surrounded by vibrant vegetation, creating a serene and tranquil environment.

The main feature of Waters of Raga is a large lake, which covers the central part of the area. The lake is fed by several small streams and springs, ensuring a constant flow of fresh water. It supports a diverse array of aquatic plant life, such as water lilies, reeds, and various types of algae. These plants provide a vital habitat for numerous species of fish, amphibians, and invertebrates.

Surrounding the lake are smaller pools and ponds, which are interconnected through a network of channels and rivulets. These pools serve as breeding grounds for many water-dependent organisms, including frogs, newts, and water insects. The water in these smaller bodies is generally calmer and more still, creating a haven for waterfowl and other bird species. Visitors to Waters of Raga can often spot ducks, swans, and herons gliding gracefully across the water surface.

The edges of the marsh are characterized by lush vegetation, including sedges, rushes, and tall grasses. These plants thrive in the damp and nutrient-rich soil, providing important nesting sites and cover for various bird species. Additionally, the marshland supports a wide range of insects, which in turn attract insect-eating birds and bats.

Waters of Raga is not only a haven for wildlife but also a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers. Its picturesque scenery and rich biodiversity make it an ideal place for leisurely walks and wildlife observation.

The clue could be in the name. A gale blowing across these chimney pots could maybe whip up a fairly convincing Woo Woo sort of noise, like blowing over a beer bottle.
