Capels Grove is a small woodland located in Essex, England. Situated in the district of Epping Forest, it covers an area of approximately 10 acres. The woodland is part of the larger Epping Forest, a designated Special Area of Conservation.

Capels Grove is characterized by its diverse range of trees, including oak, beech, birch, and hornbeam. These trees create a dense canopy, offering shelter and a habitat for various wildlife species. The forest floor is covered in a thick layer of leaf litter, providing nourishment for numerous plant species and supporting a rich biodiversity.

The woodland is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and families seeking a peaceful retreat from the bustling city life. A network of well-maintained footpaths allows visitors to explore the grove and enjoy its natural beauty. The tranquil atmosphere and abundance of flora and fauna make Capels Grove an ideal spot for birdwatching and wildlife photography.

The grove is also steeped in history, with evidence of human activity dating back to the Iron Age. Archaeological artifacts, such as pottery shards and flint tools, have been discovered in the area, providing insight into the lives of past inhabitants.

Capels Grove is managed by the City of London Corporation, which aims to preserve and protect the woodland's natural heritage. Regular conservation efforts, including tree planting and invasive species control, ensure the long-term sustainability of this important ecosystem.

St. Mary's church, Pattiswick, Essex Like many other redundant churches around the country, this 12th century church has been converted into a private residence. The conversion has been quite sympathetically done and, although it seems a shame that such action has been carried out, it is better than demolition.
