Thetford Warren Lodge Thetford Warren Lodge is thought to date from around 1400 and was built for the Prior of Thetford. It was a defensible lodge offering protection warreners, effectively gamekeepers who were in charge of the rabbits in the surrounding Warren.  Rabbits were valuable for their meat and fur and this robust building provided protection against armed poachers. The building is in the care of English Heritage.
