Stones Cottages at Little Laver, Essex These cottages are named Stone Cottages, but on the 1940's edition of the O/S map, it shows them as Poorhouses. They stand on Little Laver Road, between Little Laver and Matching Green.

Water Tower near Abbess Roding This water tower is located in an area that is described on the OS 1:25,000 map as 'Camp Site (dis)'. This is the site of the officers camp of the now disused Matching airfield about 3/4 km to the west, where a United States Air Force bomber group was based for part of WWII. Many Nissen and Romney camp huts have apparently been reclad for light commercial use.

On the 1940s OS map, the farm is called Parker's Farm. The wood in the background is Brickles Wood, where there are the remains of the WWII bomb dump for Matching airfield. Brickles Wood used to be called Brick Kiln Wood, a reference to the brick making that was carried on in the area.

Little remains of Rookwood Hall itself, which is believed to have been built in the early 16th century, though Rockwood as a manor dates from much earlier. There are signs of a second moated enclosure south of Rookwood Hall, and the pond may be part of the eastern side of the moat.

Roman road near Abbess Roding The line of a Roman road, the Suffolk Way, runs left to right across the middle of this field just south of Rookwood Hall. The Romans chose the fertile Roding Valley in which to settle and they built this road from London through Chigwell to Dunmow. The road coming from the left is the private road from the hall to the C road that runs between Abbess Roding and Little Laver. Rookwood Hall Cottages are in the middle distance at the road junction. Incidentally the Roman road is not marked on the OS 1:25,000 map.
