St Mary, Herriard: gravestone It is of the local squire Francis Henry Tristram Jervoise,TD, DL, JP, FSA, FLAS He was born on 31 December 1872, the eldest son of  F. M. E. Jervoise, MA, JP, DL. He was educated at Winchester College and Christ Church, Oxford. He succeeded to the 7.5 thousand acre estate on the death of his father in 1903. In 1908 he married  Beatrice , daughter of  Captain William Savile, 9th Lancers: she died in 1944. In 1912 he was High Sheriff of Hampshire. In 1946 he married Aileen Margaret,  daughter of G. W. Harrap from nearby Bentley. A man greatly interested in hunting, shooting and  archæology, he died on 27 May 1959.
