The River Allen at Monkton Up Wimborne Quite unbeknown to me at the time I took this shot, Mike Faherty had stood in much the same spot back in August 2009 - one of those little coincidences that make Geograph so much fun. When Mike was here, the River Allen had dried up completely, though - it has to be said - rain may well have been on the way SU0113 : Monkton Up Wimborne, river bed.

The difference between the two shots goes well beyond the state of the river; by August the trees were in much fuller leaf - in late April some of the largest, probably ashes, were still leafless. And then I was lucky enough to have a sunny evening - and the young Friesians bring a bit of life into the picture !
