Hanging Wood is a picturesque woodland located in the county of Wiltshire, England. Situated near the village of Hanging Langford, this ancient forest covers an area of approximately 100 acres. The wood is predominantly composed of deciduous trees, including oak, beech, ash, and birch, which create a diverse and vibrant ecosystem.

The woodland is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to a variety of plant and animal species. Bluebells carpet the forest floor during spring, creating a stunning display of color, while ferns and mosses thrive in the damp and shady areas. The canopy of the trees provides shelter for numerous bird species, such as woodpeckers and thrushes, and small mammals like squirrels and badgers can often be spotted scurrying among the undergrowth.

Hanging Wood has a long history, dating back centuries. It was once part of the larger forest that covered this region and played a crucial role in the local economy, providing timber for construction and fuel. Today, the woodland is managed by a local conservation organization, ensuring its preservation and protection.

The wood offers a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts and hikers who can explore its well-maintained footpaths and trails. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the forest, observe wildlife, and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings. The wood is particularly breathtaking in autumn when the foliage turns vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold.

Hanging Wood is a true gem of Wiltshire, offering a haven of serenity and natural wonders to all who venture into its leafy depths.

2008 : Wheat field near Bowden Hill A sorry sight. The wheat should have been harvested a month ago but the poor weather made it impossible. If the farmer is able to salvage anything from this it will probably go for animal feed at a much reduced price.

2008 : Ruined crop near Bowden Hill I don't normally feel sorry for farmers but I will admit to feelings of sympathy when I saw this. The ground was so wet, there was standing water in places, there would be no hope of harvesting. A total loss of time and money.
