St Cuthbert's Church There is the possibility that a chapel was set up by priests from Lindesfarne in the 8th century. The next reference to a church of St Cuthbert was in Prestwick but was actually in Monkton – Prestwick burgh was at that time Monkton. This occurred sometime between 1165 and 1173. This was granted to Paisley by Walter the Steward and confirmed in 1172 by Pope Alexander III. In 1175 Monkton is referred to as a Parish Church. The vicar of St Cuthbert’s is referred to in 1227 in relation to his stipend. The Parsonage was annexed to Paisley Abbey. Some of the current ruins of St Cuthbert’s dates to the 13th century. It would appear therefore, in line with the statute that churches should be built of stone, the church at Monkton was rebuilt at this time.

In 1942 the house was requisitioned for the war effort and from 1951 until around 1967 it was an officer's club for the United States Air Force, which was stationed at Prestwick. In 1987 it was bought by British Aerospace and became a Flying Training School. The house became a hotel in 2002. The low building on the right is a 1980s ballroom extension, now used as the dining room. There are further bedroom extensions at the far side of the house.
