Broad Wood

A feasting Jackdaw The autumn arrival of hungry northern birds promoted a real interest in the Rowan berries. The garden berry crop became steadily depleted, finally cleaned up by some local Jackdaws. The whole process took only about a week. Hawthorn berries are still plentiful but they don’t seem to be as tasty as the Rowans.

Love is in the air While admiring my spring flowers, I noticed lots of ladybirds. On checking what first looked like a very big ladybird on red campion leaves, I realised that I was witnessing an "Attenborough moment" of wildlife in action. Gaun yersel' wee man!

Bluebells and cowslips at Crosshill The spring flowers have been specially good this year, probably a result of the very dry weather. Normally the grass and ground-elder would have swamped the bluebells.
