Castell y Bere is a historic heritage site located in Merionethshire, Wales. It is an impressive stone castle that stands on a hilltop overlooking the Dysynni Valley. The castle dates back to the 13th century and was built by Llywelyn the Great, the Prince of Gwynedd.

The castle was strategically designed to defend against potential attacks, with its location providing excellent views of the surrounding landscape. It featured a strong curtain wall, tall round towers, and a gatehouse with a drawbridge. The castle's layout includes a large inner ward, where the main buildings were situated, and an outer ward that contained additional defensive structures.

Over the centuries, Castell y Bere witnessed several conflicts and changes of ownership. It was initially used as a stronghold by the Welsh princes during their struggles against English invaders. Later, it was captured by the English crown and served as a military base. However, by the 15th century, the castle fell into disrepair and was abandoned.

Today, Castell y Bere remains a captivating archaeological site and a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can explore the ruins of the castle, including its towers, walls, and gatehouse. The site offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, making it a perfect spot for photography and picnics.

Managed by Cadw, the Welsh government's historic environment service, Castell y Bere is a significant example of medieval Welsh architecture and provides valuable insights into the region's history and culture.
