St Peter's church, Barnburgh - Cresacre Chapel monument The stone tomb and its canopy belongs to Sir Percy Cresacre (†1477), but it is the oak effigy of a cross-legged knight on the top of the tomb-chest that is of most interest. It is at least a century earlier and may be of Sir Thomas Cresacre. His head rests on a cushion, and he bears a shield and sword, his hands clasped together holding a heart. It is reputed to be one of the best C14 wooden effigies in England.
