Battle
Battle is a civil parish located in the county of Sussex, England. Situated approximately six miles inland from the English Channel, it lies on the eastern edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The parish covers an area of around 2.5 square miles and is home to a population of over 6,000 people.

Millpond at Powder Mill Wood, Battle TN33
In 1676 John Hammond was given a grant to build a powder mill on land owned by Battle Abbey. Other mills then sprang up in the area and were said to make the finest gunpowder in Europe, supplying the British Army right up to the Crimean War. The works flourished until 1874, when a number of explosions caused deaths. The pond pictured is in the grounds of Powder Mills Country House Hotel, Powdermill Lane, Battle.
Coppicing at Powdermill Wood
Chestnut coppice felled over the previous wintern being cross-cut and selected for fencing posts. Coppicing allows light to reach the woodland floor every 15 years or so, and bluebells thrive under such conditions.

The farm shop is well patronised having a wide selection of locally grown produce, and there is a garden centre attached.
Fruit Fields & Stables at Great Park Farm near
At winter time the fruit fields are essentially dormant but they will become a hive of activity throughout the summer months, with the resulting produce sold in the adjacent farm shop. This view looks towards the ridge on the western outskirts of Battle.
