Development, Sackville Road, Hove
A trading estate (TQ2805 : Entrance, Sackville Trading Estate) has largely been cleared for a new housing development, which will also include offices and public gardens. Housing will include more than 500 build to rent homes and 260 care community homes (whatever they are). Developers Moda Living.
Channings and Dorset Court
Two apartment bocks on Kingsway, either side of Carlisle Road, seen across a hard play area on Western Lawns. Channings, consisting of 96 flats, was completed in 1971 and Dorset Court in 1957.
Hove: the view from the Pavilion
Nottinghamshire were batting on the second evening of the first County Championship match of the 2022 season, recovering from 59 for 4 earlier in the day in reply to Sussex's 375. The recovery was led by the captain, Steven Mullaney, who went on to a career best 192, backed up by younger players, including Joey Evison, who scored a maiden century (109 not out). Notts took a first innings lead of 159 and on the last day bowled the very young and inexperienced hosts out for 172 before winning by ten wickets.
Although the evening was sunny, it had been cloudy earlier and the floodlights were on. I broke the habits of a lifetime and watched a session from the side rather than an end in order to take this picture.
Hove: Finn bowling to Hameed
On the second afternoon of the first County Championship match of the 2022 season Stephen Finn, the former England fast bowler, making his Sussex debut after moving from Middlesex, bowled to Nottinghamshire and England opening batsman Haseeb Hameed. Finn had the better of the encounter, having Hameed caught at the wicket for 5, but Nottinghamshire won the match by ten wickets on the fourth afternoon (Sussex 375 and 172, Notts 534 for 9 declared and 14 for 0).
Hove: the first ball of the new season
Nottinghamshire's popular seam bowler Luke Fletcher, the country's leading wicket-taker in 2021, bowled the first ball of the 2022 County Championship season to the left-handed Sussex opener Ali Orr on a bright, cold and very windy April morning. Though he took only one wicket in the contest and suffered a hamstring injury, Fletcher no doubt enjoyed Notts' ten-wicket win as much as the man who took the photograph did (Sussex 375 and 172, Notts 534 for 9 declared and 14 for 0).
Hove: pre-match pep talk
I arrived at the County Ground in Hove in time to see Nottinghamshire's Head Coach Peter Moores addressing the thirteen-man squad during the practice session before the start of the first County Championship match of the 2022 season. Whatever he said had the desired effect as Notts beat Sussex by ten wickets on the fourth afternoon of an absorbing encounter (Sussex 375 and 172, Notts 534 for 9 declared and 14 for 0).
