More recent events include: 2nd December 2022 a cap of$60 is imposed on Russian crude oil; 5th December; first successful Fusion Ignition (the point where a nuclear reaction becomes self-sustained); 7th, the President of Peru removed by Congress; 17th, as agreed the Irish Coalition Government rotate the taoiseachship of Ireland rotates, Leo Varadkar succeeding Micheál Martin; 19th, at COP15 nearly 200 countries agree a landmark deal to protect the planet; 24th, another Merseyside gangland shooting ends with an innocent bystander killed; 29th, Benjamin Netanyahu becomes Prime Minister of Israel for a third time; and, on the last day of 2022, Pope Benedict XVI dies after nearly a decade in retirement.

The weather this month has been by turn, cold and frosty, mild and damp, windy and squally. The US had a ferociously cold snap in Christmas Week, causing President Diden to caution "This isn't like the Snow Days we all enjoyed as kids, this is life threatening": in the event 61 died, with the worst area being Buffalo, NY.
