Oxgangs is a residential area located in the southern part of Edinburgh, Scotland, specifically in the district of Midlothian. It is situated approximately 4 miles southwest of the city center and is bordered by the districts of Colinton, Fairmilehead, and Firrhill.

Primarily a housing estate, Oxgangs is known for its well-established community and family-friendly atmosphere. Braidburn Valley Park Cherry Trees

An avenue planted by the Girl Guides in 1935, part of a trefoil-shaped planting to the east of the Braidburn valley. Now over 70 years old, some are in poor condition and a replacement programme was started in 2008. 80 trees were felled in 2009 and 100 new trees planted in 2010 to commemorate the Centenary of Girl Guiding. Many of the old trees had rot, but wood from some was made into three benches now cited in the park NT2469 : Braidburn Valley Park Cherry Tree Bench.

One of three made by Julian Angus, Cousland, Midlothian, out of wood from the 70+-year-old cherry trees planted by Girl Guides in 1935, which are nearing the end of their life and are being replaced NT2469 : Braidburn Valley Park Cherry Trees. I think the two fallen rowans in the background are not the result of vandalism, but the strong winds that caused problems in Edinburgh and eastern Scotland the week before [23 May].

The western block of the Edwardian barracks with a glimpse of the Pentland Hills on the right. It has long been widely rumoured that the barracks are perishing cold in the winter months, thus giving rise to the apocryphal tale that two sets of barracks were originally designed, one to be built in Scotland and the other in India...only thanks to bureaucratic bungling the blueprints got mixed up. So, somewhere in India local recruits suffocate in sweltering heat while their Scottish counterparts suffer the exact opposite. Link

Redford Barracks clock tower

The clock tower on the former cavalry barracks of the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys). The barracks continue to accommodate troops between tours of duty throughout the year and come alive in August when they house performers in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo which takes place on the Castle Esplanade.
