Lower Leigh - big diesel engine This is a secure private site that is home to a company specialising in pumps and sewage treatment. The owner is a former marine engineer and invited me to see his work in progress. This beauty is a 1965 built V16 twin turbo W H Allen diesel driving a brushless alternator. The engine is rated at 1860 horsepower with a one hour overload to 2000 horsepower. This now runs off load and makes an awesome noise at 750 rpm. It was used at an Astra Zeneca works.

Recovered high voltage equipment This is equipment no longer wanted by the National Grid and has been saved by the owner of this secure site near Lower Leigh. This was a with permission visit. I think the large units operated at 275kV. None of this is now live, fortunately.

Salvaged electrical equipment The owner of this secure private site is setting up a replica high voltage installation using redundant National Grid equipment. Unfortunately there is little interest in this kit and the owner is to be commended for saving some.

National diesel engine near Lower Leigh The owner of this private secure site obtained this from the Staffordshire Potteries Water Board pumping station at Stockton Brook. The diesel was installed in 1936 when the station's steam engines were replaced with electric pumps. The power was taken from the public supply but the diesel was the standby generator and drove a dynamo.
