Castle Menzies is a historic castle located in Perthshire, Scotland. Situated near the village of Weem, it stands on a picturesque site overlooking the River Tay. The castle dates back to the 16th century and has great significance in Scottish history.

Built in the late 16th century, Castle Menzies was originally the seat of the Menzies Clan, a powerful Scottish family. The castle was constructed with a distinctive Z-plan layout, featuring a main tower and two projecting wings. It was designed to provide both defensive capabilities and comfortable living quarters for the clan.

Over the centuries, Castle Menzies underwent various alterations and additions. Notably, in the 19th century, it was transformed into a mansion house with the addition of a ballroom and a chapel. However, in the mid-20th century, the castle fell into disrepair and was at risk of being lost.

Fortunately, in 1957, the Castle Menzies Preservation Trust was formed to save and restore the castle. The trust worked tirelessly to restore the building to its former grandeur, and today, Castle Menzies stands as a remarkable example of Scottish Renaissance architecture.

Visitors to Castle Menzies can explore its many rooms, including the Great Hall, the Laird's Room, and the restored 19th-century ballroom. The castle also houses a museum that showcases the history of the Menzies Clan and displays a collection of artifacts and memorabilia.

Castle Menzies is not only a historical site but also a popular venue for weddings, events, and cultural activities. With its stunning surroundings and rich heritage, Castle Menzies continues to be a significant landmark in Perthshire and a testament to Scotland's architectural and cultural legacy.

Weem Wood Cup Marks Three rocks with cup marks on a rock formation along the footpath, two in the ground and one of probably 60cm height. This one depicted here is the higher rock. You might be able to distinguish two different types of cup marks on this rock. The double and triple rings are said to be prehistoric, whereas some people doubt that and claim that some cup marks in Weem Wood are 'modern'.
