Canons Ashby is a historic house located in the picturesque county of Northamptonshire, England. It is a well-preserved Elizabethan manor house that has been designated as a Grade I listed building and is now managed by the National Trust.

The house was originally built in the mid-16th century by the Dryden family, who were wealthy landowners in the area. Over the years, it has undergone several modifications and additions, but still retains much of its original architecture and charm. The exterior of the house features a combination of red brick and limestone, with intricate stone carvings adorning the windows and doorways.

Inside, visitors can explore a range of beautifully decorated rooms that showcase the changing tastes and styles of the different eras. The Great Hall is particularly impressive, with its high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and a large fireplace. The Long Gallery is another highlight, displaying a stunning collection of family portraits and antique furniture.

The surrounding gardens and grounds of Canons Ashby are equally as captivating. There are formal gardens, including a walled garden and topiary, as well as more relaxed areas with sweeping lawns and ancient trees. The estate also boasts a picturesque church, which dates back to the 13th century.

Canons Ashby offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the grandeur of a bygone era. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and beautiful gardens, it is no wonder that it is a popular destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Upper Green, Moreton Pinkney At first glance a pretty village scene but look at the pub sign on the left. If it looks like a gibbet it's because the pub is being demolished. Furthermore just round the bend almost every dwelling is up for sale. Influence of the new high speed rail link? Perhaps; but the route is a couple of miles southwest of here. The village website is more chereful about the pub; it used to be called England's Rose and is in the process of reconstruction.
