Barnstaple Long Bridge

Barnstaple Long Bridge was built in the 14th century and is still the main river crossing for several miles. However a new bridge is being built slightly downstream to take much of the passing traffic out of the town centre. It is expected to open in 2006.

The Iron Bridge, Barnstaple

The Iron bridge used to carry the link between the ex-Great Western Railway and Southern Railway lines in Barnstaple. This allowed GW trains from Taunton to continue through to Ilfracombe. Despite the line closing in the early 1960s and the value of the metal for scrap, the bridge survived to become a pedestrian and cycle bridge.
