Reedham Marshes, located in Norfolk, England, is a stunning coastal marshland known for its diverse range of habitats and rich wildlife. Situated along the banks of the River Yare, this expansive wetland covers an area of approximately 600 hectares and is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The marshes consist of a mix of saltmarsh, reedbeds, open water, and grazing marsh, providing a diverse range of environments for various plant and animal species. The saltmarshes, in particular, are a unique feature of Reedham Marshes. These saline habitats are created by the mixing of seawater from the adjacent North Sea with freshwater from the river, resulting in a brackish environment that supports a wide array of specialized plants and invertebrates.

The site is renowned for its avian population, with over 200 bird species recorded throughout the year. Reedham Marshes are particularly important for breeding and overwintering birds, attracting large numbers of wading birds such as redshanks, avocets, and lapwings. It also serves as an important stopover site for migratory birds, including rare species like the spoonbill and marsh harrier.

In addition to its avian inhabitants, Reedham Marshes also support a diverse range of insects, mammals, and reptiles. Visitors may spot water voles, otters, and even seals along the riverbanks, while dragonflies and butterflies flutter around the reedbeds during the summer months.

With its picturesque vistas, abundant wildlife, and unique saltmarsh environment, Reedham Marshes offers visitors a remarkable opportunity to experience the natural beauty and biodiversity of Norfolk's coastal marshes.

Berney Arms Station loses its reputation as the quietest railway station in England! With only two trains each way per day (weekdays - a few more at weekends) and only foot access, Berney Arms station is a remarkable survivor on the national network. However, a popular use of the station is for people to arrive on the mid-day train, have a leisurely lunch at the nearby Berney Arms Inn, and then return on the mid-afternoon train. Some people have been known to be too leisurely over lunch and miss the return train. They're then faced with a four-mile walk to either Reedham or Great Yarmouth - unless they can hitch a lift from a friendly passing boat on Breydon Water!
