Specifically, it is situated on the mainland of Shetland, which is the largest island in the archipelago. Stivi Geo is classified as a headland or point, characterized by its prominent and elevated position on the coastline.

The name "Stivi Geo" is derived from the Old Norse language, reflecting the Scandinavian influence in the region's history. "Stivi" is believed to have originated from the word "stif", meaning narrow, while "geo" refers to a narrow inlet or cove. This description accurately represents the physical attributes of Stivi Geo, as it is characterized by a narrow and steep-sided inlet along the rugged coastline.

The landscape surrounding Stivi Geo is typically rocky and windswept, showcasing the wild and untamed nature of the Shetland Islands. The headland offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding sea and the nearby islands, making it a popular spot for visitors and locals alike.

The coastal feature is also home to various species of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, and razorbills, which nest in the cliffs and use the headland as a resting point during their migrations. This makes Stivi Geo an important site for birdwatching enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Golf by the Sea The golf ball loss on this course must be considerable. Just walking around the edge we were finding balls all over the place in streams and rock pools. That's not counting the ones that have sunk in a bog or are rolling around on the sea bed.
This is the northernmost point of Whalsay, with the Inner Holm of Skaw beyond.

Small Stream at Pundsi Geo Another water hazard for the golfers on Whalsay Golf Course, this rivulet drains a small pond right out on the headland. It's a tiny catchment, can't be more than a few hundred square metres, but it's flowing nicely.
