When I worked there we had to take every boat down the river to this point and let them dry out, remove all the paint back to the wood then caulk all the cracks, paint them and then tar the bottom of them, we then sunk each boat for a few weeks to get the wood to swell up and make them water tight. They were old boats then and I think that I would have painted this one a few times. The bridge was a bit tight when you met a lorry. You just shut your eyes at the last minute and hoped for the best.

The Corff house beside the River Beauly

This was where we repaired all the Boats and the nets in the winter. What is a corff? well it was a floating wooden cage that you kept the Hen and the Cock Salmon in until they were ready to release their eggs for putting up to the Hatchery, some went back to the river some were sold on to the Fish Farms that were just getting started. when I look back at that times I think that was the down fall of so many Rivers, selling fish that should have gone back to the River that they came from!.

This is a Corff and this is what they floated out on to the river tied to the river bank, with the spare Hen and Cock Salmon in them, when the Hen was ready you would pull them in and strip all the eggs out of her and then milk the Cock Salmon over the eggs, and then off to the Hatchery with the eggs.
