Blo Geo

Breaking waves and Fora Ness, Sand, Shetland Sand Beach is one of the many shallow sandy bays around the Shetland coastline. It's perfect for a late afternoon swim if there's no wind, and the sun has been shining all day to warm the sand and water, but pretty chilly the rest of the time - which is most of the time!

Blo Geo is a prominent and picturesque coastal feature located in the Shetland Islands, off the northeast coast of Scotland. Specifically, it is situated in the southern part of the island of Mainland, which is the largest in the Shetland archipelago. Blo Geo is categorized as a headland, or a narrow strip of land that juts out into the sea.

The headland is characterized by its rugged and dramatic landscape, with steep cliffs that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding ocean. It is also known for its unique geological formations, including sea stacks and natural arches, which have been sculpted by the relentless pounding of the waves over thousands of years.

Due to its exposure to the North Atlantic Ocean, Blo Geo experiences strong winds and powerful waves, making it a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. It is an ideal location for activities such as birdwatching, coastal walks, and photography, as the headland boasts an abundance of wildlife, including seabirds like puffins, guillemots, and fulmars.

In addition to its natural beauty, Blo Geo also holds historical significance. The area has archaeological remains dating back to the Norse occupation of the Shetland Islands, providing insights into the island's rich cultural heritage.

Overall, Blo Geo is a captivating coastal feature in the Shetland Islands, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in its stunning natural scenery, observe diverse wildlife, and explore the region's fascinating history.
