Craighouse: Jura Community Shop and post office The village store at Craighouse has been revamped since I was here in 2008 (<a href="https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/915872">NR5267 : Craighouse: Jura Stores/post office and postbox № PA60 3</a>).

The building has been modernised; the entrance now adjoins the road rather than the harbour; and the postbox and phone box have been separated. The telephone box no longer contains a phone so it is merely a cosmetic feature, but a public payphone is in the little covered path to the porch.

The shop has been much modernised inside too.

A post office on Jura was initially established on 16 December 1811, located several miles north of here at Lagg. The branch was named Jura then but was renamed Lagg in 1868 before the island's second office, here at Craighouse, was opened on 1 December 1876.

The office at Lagg closed on 1 August 1963 but in the meantime, a third office, further north at Inverlussa, was opened on 1 July 1947. When the Inverlussa branch closed on 1 October 1984, the Craighouse office became and remains the island's only post office.

Currently, it is open from 9am to 1pm Monday to Saturday.
