Holm of Cruester is a small uninhabited island located in the Shetland archipelago, situated off the northeast coast of Scotland. It is part of the wider Holm of Papil and Holm of Gruting Nature Reserve, which encompasses several other islands.

Covering an area of approximately 23 hectares, Holm of Cruester is primarily composed of low-lying grassland and heath, with rocky shorelines and small cliffs along its perimeter. The island is renowned for its rich birdlife, with various species of seabirds nesting here during the breeding season. These include Atlantic puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, and fulmars, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.

Access to Holm of Cruester is limited, as there are no regular ferry services or visitor facilities on the island. However, it can be reached by private boat or as part of an organized tour. Visitors are advised to take necessary precautions and have appropriate clothing and footwear, as the terrain can be uneven and slippery.

The island offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and the North Sea, providing an ideal setting for photography and outdoor exploration. It is also known for its diverse plant life, including wildflowers and grasses that flourish in the island's nutrient-rich soil.

Holm of Cruester is a place of natural beauty and tranquility, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the unspoiled wilderness of the Shetland Islands.

Art with a capital F, Commercial Street, Lerwick Someone commissioned some street art for Lerwick, the quality varying, in my opinion, from poor to awful. Some wise person decided to place this 'peculiar' item on a road, outside the Royal Bank of Scotland (admittedly in an area which was pedestrianised, but then de-pedestrianised). For the avoidance of doubt, the cones are not part of the installation.
