It is situated in the parish of Little, within the Amber Valley district, and is approximately 3 miles northeast of the town of Wirksworth. End of the line - Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

This is the end of the branch to Ravenstor Station, to which we had been propelled by an Andrew Barclay saddle tank steam locomotive from Wirksworth. There is a recreated mineral loading system on the right with an obliging wagon to receive the material. The line to here is 1:27 gradient and the locomotive worked hard.

Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST No. 2217 of 1947 - Henry Ellison - was offering brake van rides to Ravenstor and was impatiently waiting for the next group of passengers wishing to play 'sardine' in a brake van.

Double headed heritage diesels hauling a DMU set. In the lead is 33 103 Swordfish and behind is class 25 D7629. The class 33 was a 98 strong class produced from 1960-62 and originally known as the Cromptons.

There are two sets of crossing gates on this line that are operated by the train crew. This is the set closest to Wirksworth.

On the other platform is class 33 103 Swordfish which is to top and tail the train back to Duffield with a class 25. This was a mixed traffic day with heritage diesels Duffield to Wirksworth and an 0-4-0ST on the branch to Ravenstor.

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway - returning from Ravenstor

The marked lack of effort from the chimney and the train crew facing the photographer all indicate that 0-4-0ST Henry Ellison is returning from the 1:27 climb to Ravenstor. The brake van is propelled up the incline, which seems contrary to current practice but on pondering it I concluded it was to prevent a runaway if the coupling failed.
