Scilly Rock is a small uninhabited island located off the southwestern coast of Cornwall, England. It is part of the Isles of Scilly archipelago, which consists of approximately 140 islands and islets. Scilly Rock, also known as Scilly Rock Island, is situated about 25 miles northwest of Lands End and is the northernmost island in the group.
Measuring just 200 meters in length and 100 meters in width, Scilly Rock is a rocky outcrop with steep cliffs rising up to 30 meters above sea level. The island is predominantly composed of granite, like many other islands in the archipelago. Its exposed position in the Atlantic Ocean makes it vulnerable to extreme weather conditions, including strong winds and high waves.
Due to its remote location and lack of amenities, Scilly Rock is not accessible to the public and does not support any permanent human population. However, it serves as an important habitat for a variety of bird species, including puffins, gulls, and cormorants, which use the island for breeding and nesting.
Scilly Rock is often admired for its picturesque landscape and rugged beauty. Its isolation and untouched natural environment make it an attractive destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Visitors to the Isles of Scilly may have the opportunity to view the island from a distance during boat tours or while exploring the surrounding waters.
