On the Border At this point the fence is the border between East Lothian and Scottish Borders, though the Border does not follow the fence for any distance. Boggy terrain at the coll between Lowrans Law and Seenes Law on one of the very few days with little wind in the month of January. On the skyline is Fallago Rig wind farm.

West Hopes Shoot Coming down from the high ground in the Lammermuirs and there is a fairly big shoot going on at West Hopes, as evidenced by the vehicles seen parked in the enclosure. It was a 'keepers day out' apparently and there must have been nearly 50 shooters and beaters. The shoot was just coming to an end as I came off the hill and had been going on more than 4 hours previously as I set off on a moorland walk. So no hope for the partridges and pheasants of Hopes.

No More Hope Scottish Water have now banned the public from parking at their car park in front of the filter beds on the Hopes Estate. Seemingly the end of a long running saga of whether you could park here or not going back to when the countryside opened up in 2020 after the pandemic. I have been accessing the Lammermuirs from this car park for over 30 years with no issues till 2020.
It would seem that though Scottish Water own the car park the filter beds behind are leased from the landowner and that lease was recently renewed with Scottish Water saying "the decision to close the car park stems from the terms put to SW for a lease extension to be granted" - read into that what you will!
