Snabrough is a prominent hill located in the Shetland Islands, an archipelago situated off the northeast coast of Scotland. It is renowned for its scenic beauty and impressive geological features. Snabrough rises to an elevation of approximately 221 meters (725 feet) above sea level, making it one of the higher points in the region.

The hill is located in the central part of Shetland, near the village of Aithsetter, and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. From its summit, visitors can enjoy vistas of rugged coastlines, rolling green hills, and the vast expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Snabrough is primarily composed of ancient volcanic rocks, formed around 400 million years ago during the Devonian period. These rocks, known as basalt, give the hill its distinctive dark appearance. The geological history of Snabrough is further evident through the presence of various geological formations, including columnar jointing, which is a result of the rapid cooling and contraction of lava flows.

The hill is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts who wish to explore the unique landscapes of Shetland. Several walking trails lead to the summit, providing both challenging and rewarding experiences for visitors. The area surrounding Snabrough is also home to a diverse range of plant and animal species, making it an attractive spot for wildlife observation.

Snabrough is an iconic landmark in Shetland, offering a glimpse into the fascinating geological history and natural beauty of the region. It is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an adventure in the Scottish islands.

Belmont, Unst This was taken from the Gutcher-Belmont ferry as we come into port at Belmont, Unst, Shetland. We are on the Wick of Belmont and this is Belmont House, a category A-listed Georgian country house which was built in 1775 by Shetland landowner Thomas Mouat of Garth. Restored to its former glory between 1996 and 2010, it is now a private residence though it has been let out occasionally as a venue for cultural events and B&B accommodation.
