Foel Figenau from western slopes Foel Figenau is a gorgeous little hill which peeks temptingly above the Penllyn forest. I can see it from my house 20 miles away. It's quite a slog to get to however. As well as the obvious reward of bagging a splendid summit, there are also the endless bilberries which grow in profusion near the forest track below - and which we (ahem, my wife) makes into what we call Figenau Pie. Hot, and with ice cream - to die for.

Forest stream Running low on liquid refreshments on a hot day, I came within sight of this tumbling stream which has its source on the col between Foel Figenau and Mynydd Carnedd Hywel. As expected, the water was ice cold and pure, with a clear taste which neither tap or bottled water can start to compete with.
