The northern shore of Garbh Eilean is covered with a mass of seaweed and there were two otter cubs (Lutra lutra) with an adult that was encouraging them to dive under the seaweed, presumably learning to fish.

The specially built Garbh Eilean Wildlife Hide is directly opposite the island in Loch Sunart, enabling visitors to view a variety of wildlife in and around the shore of the island and beside the hide itself. A number of common seals can be seen resting on the shore of the island. Otters are also regularly seen here.

Rainbow over Loch Sunart

I was watching a few seals loafing on Garbh Eilean when a brief burst of sunlight lit up the rocks below the hide and produced a rainbow over the loch. There was an oystercatcher standing on one of the smaller rocks.
