Old milestone This West Riding CC milestone has been painted in recent years. The verge drops down to the wall against which is the milestone. 615 of these stones were set up by the West Riding CC in 1893/94. Over half are still in situ. Some of the castings have a foundry name on the bevel but the ones on this route, are blank. The metal is attached to the backing stone with 4 bolts. The two at the top are visible but two at the base are just under soil level at this milestone. This route was turnpiked for about 100 years from 1777. But only one old stone, on Skipton Road in Bilton, which may have been set up by the Trust has been found.

Old milestone This stone in the hamlet of Halton East is at the junction of Green Lane with Moor Lane. However the former soon peters out into a track. From the style of lettering which is only on this face, it probably dates from the late 18th or early 19th centuries. The lichens indicate clean air.
