The church of Church of St Mary Magdalene in Stockland Bristol is a relatively new one - dating from 1865. Replacing an older version, the present structure was designed by Arthur of Plymouth for the local landowning Daniel family. Intriguingly, the tower has a single clockface that faces east, right over the nave roof. Grade II listed.

Maintaining the lineage

The Church of St Mary Magdalene in Stockland Bristol dates from the work of Arthur in 1865. However, the church replaces an older version, and the font seen today is from that lost church of the fifteenth century.

Nave to chancel of St Mary Magdalene

The 1865 church has a three bay nave with a single bay chancel further on. The chancel screen is from the older church that stood here from the fifteenth century, and was restored and installed by F. Bligh Bond around 1920 as a memorial to the fallen of the Great War.

A neat and simple affair. Sadly the little church has not fared too well over the time since it was built in 1865. Today there are many items on the repair list, with Historic England rating it as category 'C' - poor and in need of much restoration, but not declining severely. Grade II listed.
