A carpet of snowdrops and a derelict cottage
A carpet of snowdrops lead to a small derelict cottage sitting next to Afon Nant-y-Fflint. Just an entrance porch, two rooms with fireplaces and an extension to the side. The roof has long gone.

Milepost by the A55, in parish of Halkyn (Flintshire District), Halkyn, on grass verge on Northeast side of the A55, below Pen Lan Lane overbridge to Plas Isaf.

Lead Mine shaft
The hollow in the foreground is a run-in Lead Mine shaft. The flat grassed area behind it on the mound has a circular form indicating that there was a Horse Gin here, a horse-powered capstan for winding in the shaft. Although the wooden structure has long since gone the circular track the horse walked around is still visible. These show up well on aerial photographs.
19th century opencast lead workings
These form a long and continuous trench where lead was extracted at surface

These workings run parallel to the road here, close to Rhes-y-Cae and are said to be ancient, possibly Roman.
Concrete bases of 20th C quarrying machinery
There was a crane marked here on old maps, on the edge of a deep pit for clay.
