Stones on Hill of Laxowater, Shetland The peculiar aspect to this photo is how to explain the presence of this collection of stones which are on top of 0.3-0.4m of eroded peat. Were they placed there in recent times? Are they the remains of an old cairn which has collapsed as some 2m of peat have eroded? Any suggestions?

Eroded peat on Clubb of Tronister, Shetland Photo shows that the original intact peat would have been 2-3m deep, but now some 80% of the area has been eroded. There are patches of black outwashed peat on top of the stony surface and some zones of re-established vegetation.
