Rothes Castle This solitary piece of masonry is all that is left of Rothes Castle, which was abandoned by its owners in 1622 and destroyed by local people about 1660 because it was being used as a refuge by bandits and outlaws. The daffodils cheer up the rather underwhelming view.

Glenrothes Distillery The traditional pagoda roof marks the original malt kiln, thought nowadays malt is normally brought in from separate maltings rather than malted on site. The sign records that the distillery was founded in 1879. To the left of the malt kiln is the still house, and the Burn of Rothes flows between this, the heart of the distillery, and the offices and warehouses on the other bank.
