Loch Strathy is a picturesque freshwater loch located in the county of Sutherland, in the northern part of the Scottish Highlands. Covering an area of approximately 4.5 square kilometers, it is nestled amidst the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and moorlands.

The loch is characterized by its crystal-clear waters, which are sourced from numerous small streams that flow down from the nearby hills. Its depth ranges from shallow areas near the shore to deeper sections in the middle, reaching a maximum depth of around 20 meters. Loch Strathy is fed by rainfall and snowmelt, and it drains into the River Strathy, which eventually empties into the North Sea.

Surrounded by a diverse range of vegetation, Loch Strathy is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The area around the loch consists of heather-covered moorland, scattered birch and pine trees, and patches of boggy ground. This habitat provides a favorable environment for numerous bird species, including red-throated divers, golden eagles, and ospreys, making it a popular spot for birdwatching enthusiasts.

The loch also supports a vibrant population of freshwater fish, such as brown trout and pike, making it an ideal location for angling. Additionally, Loch Strathy attracts outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy activities like kayaking, canoeing, and wild swimming due to its calm and tranquil waters.
