Memorial to the crew of Halifax 11 BB216 (LQ-D) The memorial can be found by on a lane just to the south of Mumby off the A52. On the night of September 1st, 1942, a Halifax bomber LQ-D, attached to 405 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force, at Topcliffe, Yorkshire took off with a crew of 8 on a mission to bomb Saarbrucken in Germany. The aircraft was a carrying a payload of incendiary bombs and propaganda leaflets. With the port engine ablaze, the pilot, W/02 Norman Angus McKenzie, RCAF aged 27, turned back soon after passing over Mablethorpe ordering the crew to bail out. 3 crewmen survived, 4 didn't, their names are on the granite plaque.
