Boudge Hill Wood is a small but significant woodland located in Essex, England. Situated near the village of Wakes Colne, this forested area covers approximately 15 hectares (37 acres) of land. It is part of a larger network of woodlands known as the Colne Valley Woods, which are important for their ecological value and recreational opportunities.

The wood is predominantly composed of native broadleaf trees, including oak, ash, and birch. These trees provide a diverse habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna. Bluebells carpet the forest floor in spring, creating a stunning display of color, while wood anemones, primroses, and wild garlic can also be found throughout the woodland.

Boudge Hill Wood is home to a variety of bird species, such as tawny owls, great spotted woodpeckers, and nuthatches. It is also a haven for other wildlife, including badgers, foxes, and squirrels. The wood is a designated local nature reserve, and its conservation management aims to protect and enhance the biodiversity of the area.

The woodland offers several walking trails that allow visitors to explore its natural beauty. These paths wind through the trees, offering glimpses of the surrounding countryside and providing a peaceful and tranquil environment for nature lovers and walkers alike.

Overall, Boudge Hill Wood is a cherished natural resource in Essex, providing a haven for wildlife, a picturesque setting for outdoor activities, and an opportunity for visitors to connect with nature.

Mullered Mercedes in Mill Wood This pile of scrap long predates the Woodland Trusts stewardship of Mill Wood. At first I thought the remains of the car were a 1950's Vauxhall until I spied the iconic three pointed star engraved on the remains of the wiper motor.

Elmstead Parish Memorial This looks like a modern replacement for an earlier war memorial. The inscription seems too politically correct for 1919. It reads: "Elmstead Parish Memorial. In grateful memory of those people who lost their lives in all conflicts for the cause of freedom. We will remember them."
