Brisley village sign The sign is in the church yard of St Bartholomew's. It depicts Richard Taverner (1505-1575) a prominent protestant who translated the Bible into English. He was popular with  Thomas Cromwell (and consequently Henry VIII) but he ended up being imprisoned in the Tower when Cromwell was executed. Henry eventually released him.
