Skiftings Clump

Old milestone This milestone on Kemp Road has had a chequered history. Originally the inscribed plate would have been on a 3 step mounting block. But when first recorded it was on a wooden support. This rotted and the occupants of the house kept the plate safe. Then it moved to Cambridgeshire and London before coming back to Yorkshire. The family returned it to the Highways Division and it was reset in July 2001 on this simple piece of stone. Now the attachment needs repainting. The NF in the Milestone Society ID is for North Ferriby.
