Wigginton - St Bartholomew - Angelic saints window The two saints depicted here are two of the four* named archangels, St Michael and St Uriel (the other two being Gabriel and Raphael, see John's SP9410 : St Bartholomew, Wigginton - Stained glass window) - the stained glass is Victorian and is to be found in the southern wall of the chancel of St Bartholomew, Wigginton.

*The number and names of the archangels is somewhat disputed depending which books of the bible are considered canonical and which apocryphal - or excluded entirely. Most (but not all) texts agree that there are seven archangels, but by no means are all of them named. Gabriel and Michael are both (pretty much) universally accepted. Raphael appears in the apocryphal Book of Tobit and Uriel in the similarly apocryphal Second Book of Esdras. Other named archangels occasionally mentioned include Phanuel and Sabrael - both of whom may be other names for Uriel.

Wigginton - St Bartholomew - Organ The splendidly ornately painted little organ in St Bartholomew's church in Wigginton was given to the church in 1879 by Miss Hannah Horlock, lady’s maid† to an aunt of Mrs. Valpy - the advowson having been purchased in 1876 by Richard Valpy of Champneys. In 1877 a new set of silver communion plate and chalice was presented to the Church by the Rev. A.S. Valpy and his wife on the occasion of their marriage.

† It is a little curious to consider where a lady's maid had come by the capital to afford such an item, but this is what the church's own website says, so it should be assumed to be correct!

Wigginton - St Bartholomew - WWI and Boer War window This dramatic modern window is in the southern wall of the nave tucked behind the pulpit onto which it casts a rosy pink hue.
The window is by acclaimed Stained Glass artist Thomas Denny and was purchased after a crowd-funding exercise in 2019.
